What an honor it is to have received an honorable mention in the prestigious Al Blanchard Award, 2017. And what fun it was to attend the Crime Bake awards banquet Saturday evening in Woburn Massachusetts.
I really enjoyed getting to share a small part of my story, Roots and Wings by reading it aloud to the audience, and enjoyed even more getting to hear other finalists read their stories – some really great writing!
The Al Blanchard Award is given by Crime Bake, an amazing conference held each year for and by writers and readers of crime stories in New England.
The award is given to the best crime story set in New England or by a New England writer, in memory of Al Blanchard, an excellent writer in his own right and co-chair of the first three Crime Bake conferences.
It was a joy to be able to sit with and get to know Enid Blanchard, Al’s widow, as well as Leslie Wheeler, the contest coordinator, and best-selling mystery writer, Hank Phillipi Ryan. I truly enjoyed getting to chat with so many talented and supportive people, and came away humbled and inspired to work harder.
I’m already thinking about next year…
